It’s probably the most common New Year’s resolution amongst men – “get rid of the spare tire around my stomach.” Unfortunately, it’s also easily the most commonly broken resolution. Not surprising, because losing belly fat isn’t easy. The rewards though are many. A trim waistline will make you look better, your shoulders will seem broader, and that tuxedo will look much better on you. More importantly, you’ll feel better from within, be more confident, be stronger and have more energy throughout the day. So here are few strategies to help you finally lose that ugly belly fat.

How to Finally Get Rid of Your Ugly Belly Fat!
Set Your Goals. In the fight against belly fat, this bit is often overlooked, but may easily be the most important. Check where you are now: get your BMI and Fat % measured at a gym. Then, decide what you want to be. If you’re looking for a 30 or 32 inch waist or getting down to 10% body fat, WRITE IT DOWN. Put it in a notebook, along with some pictures of trim waists, and start visualizing yourself with absolutely no belly fat. Keep this picture in your head, and think about it every time you work out (hey, if visualization worked for Schwarzenegger, no reason why it can’t work for you).

Eat, and Drink, Right. That’s right, you heard it. Don’t starve yourself. In the long run, the belly fat will come right back. Start your day with two glasses of water, it’ll help keep you hydrated and also boost your metabolism. Have a healthy, protein rich breakfast. Oatmeal and egg whites will do you wonders. Then, have five to six small but high protein healthy meals throughout the day. Don’t completely forget the carbs and fats though, your body needs them too. Your meals should consist of raw fruit, lean meats, and brown rice.

Keep drinking water through the day, but cut down on those cups of coffee at work. Steer clear of alcohol and soft drinks, both are high in sugar, and encourage your body to store fat. And remember, a night of binge drinking can ruin a week’s work.

Pumping Iron. You can’t spot reduce belly fat. This means that 700 crunches everyday isn’t going to get rid of your belly fat. Exercising right is essential. So unless you’re enrolled in West Point, it’s a good idea to join a good gym. Aerobic exercises like running and swimming are great, but it’s weight training that will keep the belly fat off. That’s
because weight training gives you bigger muscles and gets the blood flowing through them better. It also ensures that your metabolism rate stays high throughout the day, meaning you lose belly fat even when you’re resting.

Remember to do exercises that strengthen your core muscles: squats, lunges, deadlifts, pull-ups, push-ups, sit-ups, and hyper-extensions all work wonders, not just on belly fat but for your whole body. Don’t forget to strengthen your lower back, as this improves your posture. Sitting up straight can actually lessen belly fat.

You need to work out between three and five days every week. Keep it consistent, but mix up the workouts. Vary your exercises every day, always keeping the intensity high. Instead of working out for 90 minutes, 45 to 50 minutes should be good, with around 12 sets per body part. Keep the rest period between each set short, and don’t forget to hydrate throughout the workout. Exercise regularly and watch the belly fat melt away.

Keep your aerobic workouts intense too. Instead of jogging for an hour, shorten your workout time to 25 minutes. Jog slowly for the first five minutes, then sprint for thirty seconds to two minutes, and finally end with a one-minute jog. Keep this cycle up for 20 minutes, and you’ll feel like you’ve lost an inch of belly fat right there.

Rest Right. Sleep is an essential part of your routine, if you want to lose that belly fat. This means that you hit the sack early enough to wake up in time for a good breakfast and possibly a workout. This also means that you’ll have to cut down on weeknights at the club and late night movies. Hey, losing belly fat takes commitment, and you’ll have to make sacrifices. And that brings us to the final bit

Hang in there. The reason why most people fail and learn instead to live with belly fat is that they give up too early. Don’t let that be you! Remember, belly fat has taken years of abusing your body to build up, and it isn’t going to vanish in a couple of months. There’s no quick fix solution, except possibly liposuction. Go through this article once more, and you’ll realize that it is all about eating, drinking, working out, and sleeping right. In short, losing belly fat is about the right kind of lifestyle. You have to stick to this lifestyle, but believe me, the hardest part is starting out. Once you’re slim, trim, and belly fat-free, you won’t want to go back.
